If you’ve ever thought how great it might be to be half-robot, or even a complete cyborg, then you’ll be impressed by the initiave of Jerry Jalava, who lost a finger a year ago in a motorcycle accident.  Jerry apparently was not satisfied with a normal prosthetic replacement finger.  Instead, he modified his new finger to incorporate a USB “thumb” drive, allowing him to take his geekness to new levels of weird.  And awesome.

The headline seems a bit misleading but For the first time scientists matched a meteorite found on Earth with a specific asteroid that became a fireball plunging through the sky. It gives them a glimpse into the past when planets formed and an idea how to avoid a future asteroid Armageddon.  The Full story is here.

We quietly launched backwoods.com, an outdoor apparel retailer on Monday after a couple of months of work.  Backwoods has always been an exclusive portal to adventure.  They are known as the place to find experts on everything adventurous.  Expanded website includes online shopping,CEO blog and a social network for outdoor adventurers.

My personally favorite feature is the UPS ground shipping estimate module we wrote for Shopsite.  This Shopsite module estimates the ground shipping time based on the shipping zipcode.  Very cool considering I’ve opted to upgrade shipping at other stores to 3 day only to learn the product shipped from within my UPS zone!

The Washington Post blog Security Fix reports the shutdown of a discount web hosting company that was hosting a company that was reportedly responsible for over 75 percent of global junk email.   This is why we will never host CoolHeads with a discount web hosting company.  Companies such as Basiclink have actual technicians monitoring our networks 24/7.  We pay a bit more, but it’s worth the piece of mind knowing our network is not being used for malicious purposes.
